Did you know that some say, ‘When you see roses with thorns, celebrate because thorn bushes have roses’?
This means that we should look for the good in tough times. It’s like finding happy surprises! This teaches us to stay positive and see the good, even when things are hard. When we focus on the good stuff and find beauty in tough situations, we can have a happier way of looking at things and notice the good things around us.
“Perspective is like wearing different glasses to see things in a new way. It helps us understand that everyone can look at the same thing but see it differently. It’s like seeing a cool painting from far away and then up close – you notice different things depending on how you look at it. Perspective helps us see things from other people’s points of view and understand that there are many ways to see the world.”
This activity to reinforce the lesson of finding joy in adversity
Materials Needed (optional)
- Paper
- Coloured markers or crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
- Small stickers or decorative items
Instructions:
1. Begin by discussing the quote with the children and explaining the concept of finding positivity in every situation, just like how roses can grow from thorn bushes.
2. Have each child draw and colour a variety of flowers on the paper, including roses, daisies, sunflowers, etc.
3. Cut out the flowers carefully with scissors.
4. Next, draw and colour thorn bushes on a separate piece of paper to represent challenges or difficult situations.
5. Cut out the thorn bushes as well.
6. Invite the children to arrange and glue the flowers onto the thorn bushes, mixing the beautiful flowers with the thorns.
7. Encourage them to decorate their “Positivity Garden” with small stickers or other decorative items to add a touch of creativity.
8. Once the activity is complete, discuss with the children the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and finding beauty in all circumstances, just like their unique gardens filled with both roses and thorns.
